Little did I know when I wrote Work Your Net to Achieve Career Transformation! on September 20th that I would receive a deluge of questions:

black check mark“What should I do if I don’t have a Net?”

black check mark“How do I figure out who should be part of my Net?”

black check mark“How do I find the individuals who might be beneficial for me to meet (key influencers)?”

black check mark“Why would anyone want to be part of my Net?”

black check mark“I have been with the same company for so long, I only know people in my current company. How do I broaden my Net?”

The story I shared was about Tom, one of my clients who was an executive in a dying industry. Tom was laid-off when his division was disbanded; however, Tom had developed a large, truly unique Net of vendors, customers, industry key influencers, influencers in other industries, university alumni, trade association members, etc.

As part of his Net, Tom kept in contact for 14 years with Gary, a leader in a related industry who was named CEO a few years back.  Tom made an appointment to meet Gary at an upcoming trade association conference.  As a result, a few months later, Gary made Tom an offer of employment for a dream job in a dream location.
