On The Right Track

On March 1, 2011, in Blog, Strategic Leadership, by Christine Glasco

I sat in a La Madeleine Restaurant drinking a cup of Earl Grey tea, with a very good friend, who is a senior executive business consultant. We met to discuss our plans for business growth for the year and to brainstorm new initiatives and strategic alliance opportunities. We discussed his business innovations and I described my views and philosophies of leadership and career management.

Through my work consulting to literally hundreds of executive-level clients through leadership failures/career losses and strategic leadership successes/career wins; I have come to understand that there is an exceptional and unique chain, connectivity, and co-action between strategic leadership and career management/career transformation.

I consult to leaders – some of whom are in transition – and help them gain clarity and focus to do the right things. I assist them in developing a “language” to describe their value proposition. If they are in transition, I coach them through the transition to successful on-boarding. I help leaders build an efficient and effective Five Year Career Plan Platform™ to facilitate the attainment of current and future goals while building their current “in-place” role performance.

In my leadership coaching practice, I provide a “leadership effectiveness tune-up” for individuals who are successful and wish to prevent career derailment as they move up and hone their leadership prowess. The goals of this coaching approach are to offer feedback and new information on the competencies needed in current and future roles, to provide actionable, crucial feedback to prevent career setbacks and to develop a ‘ready-now’ candidacy to attract internal or external opportunities. The final deliverable includes customizing a Strategic Leadership Agility Arsenal™ to support the leader’s ability to immediately assess a situation, choose the right solution and prepare the organization for flawless execution.

After my friend heard my 2011 vision, new initiatives and major client focus areas, he said: ‘Well Christine – you are a Career Journey Advisor! You help your clients get on the right career track and you help them build the track. You also advise them on the best method of transportation for them to reach their unique destinations”.

I had never heard anyone describe what I do in this manner – but I think he’s right. Helping clients ensure that their leadership competencies and careers are in alignment and on the right track –is what I do.
